They are wound with initial tension; some force is required before the coils are initially separated. Die Springs are made from high tensile strength chromium alloy steel. They have an optimal wire cross section. The spring ends are ground square. Their inherent toughness can withstand heavy load demands. They give superior performance in high stress applications and are heat resistant up to 230 °C. The wire cross section provides optimum deflection and protection against failure due to excessive stress build-up. The square ends create a reliable, flat, maximum load-bearing surface.
